I initially intended to share this post the Monday following my Favorite Actors post, but with the death of Philip Seymour Hoffman and my impatience to share a movie recommendation the week after that...the schedule got moved around just a bit. As promised though, here is my current list of favorite actresses (in alphabetical order of course!)
Favorite Works: Elizabeth, The Lord of the Rings I, II, and III, The Life Aquatic, The Aviator, Babel, Notes on a Scandal, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and The Hobbit I & II. I'm really really excited to see her in Blue Jasmine and The Monuments Men.
Favorite Works: Shakespeare in Love, Chocolat, Pride & Prejudice, Notes on a Scandal, Jane Eyre, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and Skyfall. I missed them, but I really want to see My Week With Marilyn and J Edgar!
Favorite Works: Donnie Darko, Secretary (on of my all time favorites), Mona Lisa Smile, and Stranger Than Fiction. Also, I've heard it's good...and I have it in my collection but have never watched it but need to soon...Crazy Heart.
Favorite Works: Girl Interrupted, A Mighty Heart, Changeling, and The Tourist. If you haven't seen the preview for the upcoming Maleficent...it looks FANTASTIC! You can check out the trailer here! I'm really excited about the makeup in it too.
Favorite Works: The Jacket, Pride and Prejudice, Atonement, The Duchess, A Dangerous Method, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, and Anna Karenina. In my opinion, this lady is the QUEEN of period films.
Favorite Works: The Amityville Horror, Kick-Ass, Let Me In, Hugo and Dark Shadows. Two of hers that I missed but really want to see are Texas Killing Fields and Hick.
Favorite Works: The Astronaut's Wife, The Italian Job, Monster, North Country, The Road, Young Adult, Prometheus, and Snow White and the Huntsman.
Favorite Works: Defiance, The Kids Are All Right, Alice in Wonderland, Jane Eyre, Lawless, and Stoker (one of 2013's BEST films in my opinion).
Favorite Works: Heavenly Creatures, Titanic, Quills, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (on of my all time favorites), Finding Neverland, Little Children, The Reader, Revolutionary Road, and Contagion. It's safe to say that Kate Winslet is my all-time favorite actress. I would have a really difficult time re-arranging this list into order by favorites...but I KNOW she would be number one.
After making this list, I noticed something and had to go back and double check just to make sure. All of these ladies (except Maggie Gyllenhaal) have co-starred in at least one film with Johnny Depp! How awesome (and lucky for them! hahaha) is that?! I'm going to have to go back and put him on my favorite actors list...I thought about it at the time and decided against it at the last minute for reasons that I don't even remember. Obviously a lousy decision on my part. I will update that soon :)
Who are your favorite actresses?
I loveMaggie Gyllenhaal. She is so rad. My fave role of hers was in Stranger than fiction. Such a rad film.
ReplyDeleteI love that movie so much! I think that's also one of Will Ferrell's greatest roles too. I love the silly funny stuff he does-but I really wish he'd branch out more and so something like this again. I loved Maggie's personality in it-she was great!
DeleteHaha how funny that they're nearly all in films with Johnny Depp! My favourites are Helena Bonham Carter (been in a billion films with Johnny Depp haha!) and Emma Thompson.

Yes! Helena is so great! I love that they do a lot of films together with Tim Burton. What a great collaboration!
DeleteYou should see My Week with Marilyn, it's really good.
ReplyDeleteEveryone in Mona Lisa Smile is amazing!
You have Let Me In listed have you seen the original, Let the Right One In? If not check it out, it's reallllly good.
Also, speaking of Chloe Grace Moretz, have you seen the Carrie remake? I think she plays a pretty good Carrie.
I loved Let the Right One In! I can't remember which of them I saw first, but I think they're both pretty great! I did like Carrie, I read the book earlier last year so I was really excited about it. I think Julianne Moore did a great job as her mother too. I'll definitely check out My Week with Marilyn-we seem to have very similar taste in movies! Yay!
DeleteHick was fantastic.
ReplyDeleteChloe i one of my favorites for sure..
I can't wait to watch it!
DeleteGreat list! Cate and Kate would be two of mine too. I love love Katherine Hepburn - she was one awesome lady. On a more contemporary stance, I have to say I do have a lotta love for Jennifer Lawrence, she cracked me up in American Hustle.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh I ADORE Jennifer Lawrence. She has the absolute best personality! I can't believe I still haven't seen American Hustle. I better get my butt in gear though and see that and the other Best Picture nominees I haven't seen yet.
DeleteI love Kiera Knightly!
ReplyDeleteHmmm...I think I might need to do one of these lists myself!
Ohhhh I really hope you do! I'd love to read yours!
DeleteI saw monuments men it wasn't as awesome as the documentary but still pretty good, Cate is pretty awesome in it
ReplyDeleteI really love Kate Winslet too she's pretty amazing! I love eternal sunshine of the spotless mind :)
I've been hearing that it wasn't as spectacular as it looked like it was going to be. I still want to see it-I love the cast! Eternal Sunshine will forever be one of my absolute favorites :)
