Things I Wanna Learn // 1 // Special Effects Makeup

There are SOOOO many things that I want to learn how to do and implement into my life, and at some point I really hope that I can fit it all in!  This will be a new series that could possibly go on FOREVER considering the amount of things I want to learn and do.  I also think it will be a really fun way to connect with readers who are interested in doing the same...or who already are!  So this week I'd like to share something that I've been wanting to do for quite a while now:

Special Effects Makeup!
Being the movie enthusiast that I am, it's only natural that special effects makeup is something that catches my eye.  The work and creativity that goes into creating characters like the ones above (all from the SyFy series Face Off) is utterly incredible!  I don't live anywhere near a FX Makeup School, but from the research that I've done, the online Dick Smith Makeup courses are top notch!  Once I move in with Matthew we will have a garage that we're going to dedicate a space in for FX projects!  I'm really excited about it.  The basic course fee is $350, so I have quite a bit to save up before I try it out.  Once you complete the basic course, you can apply for the advanced course.  I would love to progress to the point that I can volunteer at the bigger Haunted Houses around Fort Worth.  That would be so fun!  If this is something that you're also interested in, I highly recommend subscribing to Makeup Artist Magazine...it's fantastic!  Also, you MUST see SyFy's show Face Off!  I've been watching it obsessively since season 1 and it's one of my absolute favorite shows :)  

Do you have a favorite movie character that involves special effects makeup?  I think mine might be Jim Carrey as the Grinch :)

    Oh man, that would be so cool, wouldn't it?! Ahhh! There's a tech school here in Pittsburgh that teaches FX makeup, and I've really wanted to take the course. My boyfriend is a vet and gets to take classes for free there-- I wonder if it's transferable to me, haha!

    I think my favorite is the Faun from Pan's Labyrinth! That whole movie had gorgeous, complex makeup and animatronics!

    I love special makeup effects. I husband taught a class on it for a while. I love all the old school universal monsters makeup but my all time fave has to be the makeup in Pans Labyrinth. Soo amazing.

    I've heard/seen some stuff on the Syfy's makeup show I think it's fascinating!!
    I am drawing a blank on fav movie makeup....looking those awesome pics you posted lol
