Thrifting: A Very Turtley Find!

Introducing Sheldon the turtle lamp!

Is this not the sweetest-most awesome-feel good-happy lamp you've ever seen or what?!?  Of all of the random things I've bought at antique shops over the past couple of years, this has got to be my favorite find!  I'm a sucker for anything turtley (TMNT anyone?!), and they've been one of my favorite animals since childhood.  As soon as I saw him I snatched him right up as if there were a horde of crazed turtle creeps racing to beat me to him.  Haha turtle creeps!  I beat you!  He's mine!  :)
I knew I wanted him regardless of the price, but was really happy when I flipped the tag over and found that he was only $15!  This photo looks a bit dark, but he actually gives off the perfect amount of light for late night reading in bed.  Once I move into Matthew's house I think I'll keep him on the night stand on my side of the bed :)

I did a quick search on eBay and there are actually quite a few of them listed on there.  If you're interested, you can find the link for my eBay search here.

What's your most treasured thrift find to date?

  1. Awwww, I love him!! I also really love turtles and tortoises!

My best find was a glass I had when I was a kid. It was a Tom and Jerry jam jar that you'd use as a cup when the jam was finished up. We'd given it away or broken it or something, but I found one again at the Goodwill recently and was so happy. It's not a very special find, but sentimental enough for me to grab it up!

  3. Adorable find! My sister's boyfriend has a 50+ year old tortoise named Sadie and she is so smart and funny. I never really thought turtles/tortoises would be so expressive before meeting her.

My favorite antique finds have been a perfectly worn-in leather messenger bag and a couple really cool Victorian era skeleton keys.

    1. Tortoises are so awesome! My boyfriend and I have considered making one part of the family...it would be a HUGE commitment, but we're considering it. Maybe a couple of years down the road :)

Those sound like really great finds! I love old skeleton keys!

  5. This is amazing! The thrift stores around here hardly get these cute treasures in! I think the most "treasured" item I got was a computer desk. Haha! I love this! I know we have a store here called Earthbound and its got all kinds of things like this.
